Scholarship applications for the 2015/2016 school year are available at https://online.factsmgt.com/aid.  All applicants must apply each year by the deadline of February 15, or they will not be considered for funding.  Lastly, it is a requirement that all applicants must reside in Morris, Passaic or Sussex counties.

Tri-County Scholarship Fund’s Young Professionals will host Thanks(for)Giving, a charity event for young professionals and their friends and families at the Hanover Marriott on Friday, November 28th (the day after Thanksgiving).  The evening raises funds to provide scholarships for financially needy students from Morris, Passaic and Sussex counties so they can attend private and parochial schools in areas where the public schools are failing them. Bill O’Reilly has graciously accepted our invitation to attend a private reception for major donors at the upcoming 33rd annual awards dinner.  A limited number of tickets for admission to this private reception, along with admission to the awards dinner, may be purchased for $1,000 per person (Benefactor).  In addition, four complimentary tickets to the private reception with Bill O’Reilly will be provided to those who purchase Graduate, Leader, Founder or Chancellor  tables. Investors Savings Bank knows a thing or two about investing.  That is why Ada Melendez, Investors Vice President and Director of Community Development, recently visited the Tri-County Scholarship Fund office.  On August 13, Ms. Melendez presented a check for $1,000.00 to Gregory Floyd, President of the fund.  The donation will cover part of an elementary school scholarship for the coming year.  “Investing in the education of a child is a privilege that reaps rewards for years to come,” said Gregory Floyd, Tri-County’s president, adding:  “Investing in the education of a student is investing in the future of that child and in the future of our country.  The rewards are immense.”  In the past four years, Tri-County scholarship recipients have been accepted to Colgate, Cornell, Rutgers, Villanova, Georgetown, UCLA, Columbia, NYU and Notre Dame, among others, most of them on full scholarships. On Monday, July 28, 2014, four Tri-County Scholarship Fund recipients had the opportunity to address 100 executives and senior finance professionals from The Chubb Corporation in Warren, NJ.  Three were Tri-County alumni and one is a rising senior at Paramus Catholic High School in Paramus.  Tri-County Scholarship Fund serves economically disadvantaged children in Morris, Passaic and Sussex counties. This event was a follow-up to the 67th annual Hendon Chubb golf outing in June.  There, Tri-County volunteers manned two “on the green” fundraisers as well as a 50/50 at the luncheon.  This initiative on the part of Chubb enabled Tri-County to raise $4,000 in scholarships for New Jersey inner-city children to attend private schools.  (http://www.tcsfund.org/stories/chubb-golf-2014/) “The Year of Helping Others” is the name that the finance department of Chubb has given to its charitable work in 2014.  At the invitation of Ricky Spiro, Chubb’s CFO, these four student ambassadors spoke.  Angeline Lopez is a senior at Villanova University with a major in accounting; Aimee Zanabria is a Junior at Cornell with a major in Animal Science; Julie Gamarra is a Junior at Felician College with a major in Physical Therapy (all on full scholarships!) and Kevin Arias is a rising senior at Paramus Catholic High School in Paramus.  Angeline is from Morris Plains while Aimee, Julie and Kevin are from Paterson, which has a high school graduation rate of 46%.  By contrast, Tri-County students have a 98% graduation rate, and 98% of them go straight to college, often the first in their families to do so.  These students spoke eloquently about the life-changing difference that a scholarship to private school made to them. At the conclusion of their comments, the entire room of Chubb professionals broke into groups of 10 to brainstorm about what else they could do to help the children of Tri-County.  Ideas flowed freely:  a winter coat drive, a holiday basket drive, a scholarship fundraiser, a financial literacy workshop, help with the Fund’s investments, a college essay prep session, leadership training, cultural events etc.  After much animated discussion, the top two ideas from each group were shared.  As these ideas are refined and finalized, they will be presented to Mr. Spiro in the form of recommendations for future action on the part of Chubb’s finance department. Mr. Spiro got up at the end of the session to make some concluding remarks.  Overall, the event was a huge success.  To top it off, a few days after the meeting, Angeline called the Tri-County office to tell us that she has been offered a job as an auditor at Ernst and Young upon graduation next year!  We have no doubt that Angie will continue to be a great ambassador for Tri-County.  And, for the icing on the cake, two other Chubb donations came in, resulting in a total of $12,000.00, the equivalent of three high school scholarships. The Chubb Corporation held its 79th annual Hendon Chubb Golf Outing on Friday, May 30th, 2014.  The outing was held at the beautiful Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg, New Jersey.  There were enough golfers from Chubb that 3 courses were utilized:  Wild Turkey, Ballyowen and Black Bear. What made this event special for Tri-County was the invitation from Chubb executives to send a team of volunteers to run a ‘pot of gold’ contest on two of the courses and a 50/50 raffle at the luncheon.  Six college students volunteered to facilitate these fundraisers. At the luncheon, Chubb’s CFO Ricky Spiro spoke about the fund and what it accomplishes for New Jersey inner-city children, as did Gregory Floyd, the President of Tri-County.  Thanks to Ricky’s words of encouragement and the generosity of the Chubb employees and retirees, Tri-County received $ 3,815.00 to add to its scholarship income. A grade school scholarship from Tri-County amounts to $ 2,000 per student per year.  Therefore, Chubb employees essentially provided two additional inner-city children the opportunity to attend a private, high performing school next year, one that will propel them to academic and personal success. It was a great outing for the Chubb employees and a great day for the children of Tri-County!

On Monday, June 2, the Tri-County Scholarship Fund hosted its 22nd Annual Golf Invitational at the Morris County Golf Club.  The weather was perfect, the course looked terrific and the golfers were ecstatic to be out on the course on the most perfect day of the year! The outing was a great success, and thanks to our generous sponsors and attendees, TCSF raised over $ 140,000 for the children of Morris, Passaic and Sussex counties who receive scholarships to attend private schools.  It is impossible to overestimate the game-changer that these scholarships are, since they take children out of underperforming schools and enable them to attend high-performing schools.  Indeed, the generosity of each participant will change the lives of many children! This event could not have been put together without the help of many different people, from the members of the golf committee, to the staff of Morris County Golf Club, to the many volunteers.  The efforts of all were rewarded with the arrival of almost 100 golfers.  In addition to the foursomes, there was a selection of items donated for the silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, an ‘on the green’ contest and a putting contest.   Our thanks goes to Bank of America and PricewaterhouseCoopers who co-sponsored the event.
