2014 Women of Tri-County Luncheon Recap
The Women of Tri-County 2014 Awards Luncheon was held on Friday, March 14, 2014, at the Morris County Golf Club in Morristown, New Jersey. 125 guests arrived and networked with the honorees, friends, and colleagues. This year’s luncheon was chaired by Heather G. Suarez, Esq., real estate partner at the Roseland law firm, Walder, Hayden & Brogan, P.A. Heather was an honoree in 2013.
The women recognized at this year’s event were: France Della Donne, Sr. Vice President, Communications and Public Relations at Union Center National Bank; Sally Glick, Principal and Chief Growth Strategist at Sobel & Co.; Sister Merris Larkin, S.C. Principal at Assumption School in Morristown; Marjorie A. Perry, President and CEO of MZM Construction & Management Co., Inc.; and Anna Maria Tejada, President of the Hispanic Bar Association of NJ, and Partner and Director of the New Jersey Labor and Employment Group at Kaufman, Dolowich & Voluck, LLP.
The program began with Patricia Giammarinaro’s beautiful rendition of “God Bless America,” followed by an inspirational invocation delivered by Monsignor John E. Hart, pastor of Assumption Church in Morristown.
The event benefited the Freedom Scholars Program, an initiative of the Tri-County Scholarship Fund that awards generous scholarships to high-performing students to attend private secondary schools. The highlight of the event was the remarks by current Freedom Scholar, Genesis Pena. Ms. Pena is a junior at DePaul High School in Wayne. During her remarks, Genesis shared her journey thus far. She is being raised by her mother, an immigrant to this country from the Dominican Republic. Genesis told all assembled that she truly loves art, and that her career goal is to work for Disney or Pixar. She wishes to share her creative skills and passion with all. The audience’s long applause after Genesis’ remarks was a clear signal that all present wished to support Genesis in her future endeavors.
The guests enjoyed lunch, while networking at their tables and throughout the room with those assembled. At the conclusion of lunch, awards were presented to the five amazing, accomplished, and inspirational women, each of whom was introduced by a friend or business colleague in a heartfelt manner.
The $20 million dollars in scholarship monies awarded by Tri-County over the past 32 years have changed the lives of many students. A perfect and shining example of one such life is Freedom Scholarship recipient Genesis Pena.
